A work by Alec Finlay
from the 'migrating skies' issue of island

A cannon is placed on a stone
paved area, on a small hill or
slope.

The cannon is loaded with
seeds collected from the
eighteen native tree species of
the British Isles.

One round of seeds is fired off
in the direction of each of the
four points of the compass.

The cannon remains.

Some trees grow.

Note: The Duke of Atholl seeded a larch forest in this manner in the 19th century.
